Textured Abstract Painting

Introduction to the Series

The “Treasures Within” series emerged from a deep exploration into the use of texture within my artistic practice. Inspired by the idea of integrating preserved, recycled natural materials, I was captivated by the tactile, three-dimensional effect these elements brought to my work. This process led me to reconsider materials that are often discarded and overlooked, realising their potential to be creatively reassembled into compelling new forms.

Material and Texture as Central Elements

The contrast between the organic materials and textured medium with the smoothness of paint, creates a dynamic interplay in each piece, inviting viewers to engage with the artwork in a more intimate manner. By layering surfaces with natural materials and recycled sea glass, the paintings acquired a newfound depth—both visually and conceptually—transforming them into tactile landscapes shimmering with hidden meaning.

Conceptual Foundations

As I worked on these pieces, I found myself reflecting on the complexities of our inner landscapes and the treasures that lie within everyone. The intricate layering of materials mirrored the layers of hidden treasures that form every unique person. Life’s setbacks and traumas can often leave us feeling discarded or broken; these works seek to reunite those broken and neglected pieces, restoring them into something beautiful and renewed.

Creative Process and Artistic Intent

The process of experimentation with texture and recycled elements broadened my view of what ordinary materials could achieve. It also encouraged me to embrace unpredictability and chance throughout my creative journey. Each painting became a meditation on transformation and renewal, with discarded fragments gaining new purpose and significance through thoughtful arrangement and artistic intent.
